James Carr Band - Rockin' New Single

Digging immediately into a hard-edged riff off the top of the track, I find myself transported to an earlier era in rock, one swamped in groove, feel, rhythm and swamp. There's definitely some southern rock influence here with the chugging yet rock n' roll feel of the track and I find it especially reminiscent of an old Clapton tune - The Core. Certainly that was a deep cut, but it is an amazing tune and so is this one!
James vocal is strong, melodic and in classic JCB fashion, the rockin' never gets in the way of the song and its melody. The chorus has a real strong hook and I love the shots from the band as well as the harmony singing. Rather than a traditional guitar solo, the guitar work alternates between some interesting, echoey slide playing throughout and then a sweet quick riffing section that also adds a southern-style two part guitar harmony a la Skynyrd or Allman Brothers. Absolutely nothing wrong with that in my humble opinion. On the contrary, I feel that everything is right about it.
The song ends as it starts; quick, immediate and rockin'. Do yourself a favour and add this track to your playlists and mixes to make sure you don't miss out on this brand new gem from this great little indie rock band from Seattle.
