Shane Larmand - Indie Folk Singer/Songwriter

Shane Larmand is an Indie Folk, Americana tune-smith, featuring shadowy blue songs of prairie anxiety and mountain love. This campfire tapestry of crackling wood, wire and croning calls is an enticing mixture of the classic sound of an experienced musician with the fresh tones of an artist embarking on a fresh singer-songwriter journey. Couple this with his distinctive, naturalist art personally created in a fine line, micron style and you will see how a Shane Larmand show is a riveting synthesis of line, lyric, passion and presence.

His lyrics are introspective and often delve into themes such as love, society and the artist’s battles with an anxiety disorder. He hopes fans can relate to some of the darker themes he explores in order to shine a little light on some of their own struggles.

This Alberta Indie artist has felt the music in his blood since being born to a very musical family; his father - Art Larmand - was a consummate entertainer who performed in the gritty heart of the Yonge Street, 1960’s music scene for a decade at The Zanzibar Tavern.  Shane carries on this confidence as an entertainer and songwriter and is so grateful for the gift of music handed down to him by his father. His old Guild and Fender F-65 acoustic guitars are the physical embodiment of this gift.

Though he owes great thanks to the part his father played in his music, Shane’s own stock is rising – He won the Runner-Up Prize in the Sunrise Records Local Artist Contest in 2018 which subsequently saw his debut CD – “You Are My Home” – see distribution from Vancouver to Winnipeg in all Sunrise Locations. He toured various parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan on the “Running with the Sun” 2018 Summer Tour. He is a veteran music educator, has played at The North Country Fair in 2017, The Willows Folk Festival in 2018, was featured on several college radio stations during his tour (CJSW, CJSR, CFCR and CJTR), and recently was a feature artist during the 2019 Winter Blues Concert to raise funds for a new music theatre in Bonnyville, Alberta. He also opened up for successful Albertan singer/songwriter Mike Plume for another theatre fundraiser and was recently featured in Canadian Musician Magazine as a featured new artist.

Shane Larmand and Raven Season went on tour in the summer on the “Root Foot” 2019 Summer Tour into BC. This Americana, Roots-Rock, trio featured Randy Padlesky on percussion and Kevan Vachon on Banjo. Unfortunately, the difficulties with the changes brought by the Covid-19 pandemic didn’t allow for touring in the summer of 2020 and the band has since parted, but not before recording the exciting “Star Hawk,” a folky, Pirate song with a theme of the pursuit of creative freedom.

Shane continues to pursue his songwriting journey, more online due to the pandemic’s influence. He has recently begun focusing on monthly Facebook Live shows and the connection with fans all around the world on social media. Be sure to connect with this authentic, gritty and distinctive indie folk artist.
